Details for Trash Can Transformation:

Individuals and teams should submit for review their trash can art designs by email or U.S. mail. See address below. All submissions must be received no later than 12 noon on Friday, Sept. 15.

Artists may be amateur or professional, children, youth, or adults, and may submit more than one design entry. However, depending on the total number of design submissions received, it may be necessary to limit participation to one trash can per individual artist/team.

Artists are encouraged to paint, sculpt, and use other means to create their trash can art designs live, in the park, between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30, during the 2017 Waxahachie Chautauqua. If necessary, however, all or a portion of the work may be completed at a pre-determined time and place prior to Sept. 30.

Paint and other materials used in each trash can art project should be durable, safe, and weatherproof in order to withstand the elements of the outdoors and wear and tear from use. Artists are encouraged to provide their own art supplies. If art supplies are needed, contact the email address below.

In addition, the design – and the materials used to create the design – cannot present a hazard of any kind to surrounding plants, wildlife, and visitors of the park. All designs must also be family-friendly and appropriate.

It is not a requirement, but artists may choose to incorporate the 2017 Waxahachie Chautauqua theme of “Celebrating Public Spaces” in their design.

The designs will cover new trash cans in Getzendaner Park. The event may expand to include trash cans in other Waxahachie City parks, depending on the number of design submissions received.

Participating artists will be recognized in various media, including the Waxahachie Chautauqua website, newsletter, and Facebook page.

For consideration, please submit your designs to info@WaxahachieChautauqua.org or Chautauqua Preservation Society, P.O. Box 126, Waxahachie, TX 75168. Please include the following in your submission:

1.    Your name and contact information (phone number, email address).

2.    A list of all supplies and equipment that will be used in the making of your design.

3.    A drawing or other rendering of your design.  Note:  You may send instead: a detailed written description of your design and/or a photograph of a similar design that serves as an example of what you propose to create.

4.    Time line to complete your design.
